Customised Jackets

Painted Denim Jacket

For quite a while now i have wanted to customise my own clothing using paint, but have never had the time.

Now that i finally have some time to myself i have decided to produce my own personalised denim jacket, using any paint i can find in the house, before it is thrown away.

I started by adding white paint to the back of the jacket as a base colour. This was paint specifically made for wood but we won’t get dumbed down with the details :).

After the paint had dried i decided to paint the phases of the moon, to match the dark tone of denim.

Using some old black acrylic paint, i found in the cellar, i added black to the background and circles adding dimension to the painting. I decided to photograph each stage to show the progress of my jacket. So please read on to see the final result :).

Stage 2: Add black paint to represent the shadow and add white to enhance the dried colour.

Stage 3: Add black paint to the background to represent the night sky.

I am really pleased with the way my painted jacket turned out. However if i was to try this painting again i would try to make it more symmetrical and centred.

I would really love to attempt other paintings, especially on lighter denim jackets and have been inspired by designs that can be seen on Pinterest.

In the upcoming weeks i hope to have made a second attempt at customising clothing and hope to get better in time.

Marketing Internship

Life Update!

Working as an intern at a digital marketing agency is hands down the best decision i have made. Read on to see what tasks i have tackled over the past month.

By doing a lot of reading on SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and Google Adwords i have been able to start applying my knowledge to my marketing internship.

One of the first things i learnt was how to crawl a website using the software ‘Spiderfrog’. This software showed all aspects of the website and more importantly what was missing or wrong onsite. This could be missing Alt text on images or even missing meta data.

By crawling sites and finding this information i was able to start looking at onsite SEO. I was originally set the task of adding meta data and improving titles for a particular business (that will remain nameless aha). This decreased the amount of flaws on the site and may have helped it’s google ranking.

Huddersfield Train Station

As well as learning about SEO, i was given a content writing challenge. I was challenged to write a blog on ‘mobile optimisation’. This was quite a challenge for me as it was a subject i hadn’t explore before. To start off i decided to collect all the information on the subject matter and figured that there was 5 ways to hook mobile customers.

1- Improved User Experience

2- Increased Mobile Speed

3- Improved Visual Experience

4-Local Search Results

5- Compatibility

Don’t worry i’m not gonna explain each one. But i found this subject really interesting, especially how Google take user experience seriously when considering website ranking.

After collecting the information i was able to write a blog post named ‘5 ways to hook mobile customers’, which is to be posted on the companies website.

I can’t wait to carry on working at my marketing internship and will keep you updated on the tasks and challenges i am set.

Louise Fritsch

One of the main artists that have influenced my artwork is Louise Fritsch.

Fritsch is a French artist who mainly uses oil paint on canvas to produce figures. Her work focuses around the ideal ‘Renaissance Man’, using male models to emphasise the muscles and shapes of the body.

What makes her work unique is the use of coloured paints, making the work less realistic. The different tones of colours emphasise the feeling of the paintings. Which i decided to use in my own paintings to emphasise the feeling of anger and confusion.

I decided to use the colours red, orange and pink to show elements and confusion and anger. The context of my work focused around the emotions of men and the increase of male suicide which is a huge issue on a global scale.

I experimented using different paints and colours, as well as different lines to explain the inner conflict inside men. I felt it was a big issue that is still not explored through mainstream media, and i wanted to spread the message further within a school environment.

Sadly during A-Level study we lost a male student to suicide. This affected everyone in our year group and came as a shock to most. I feel this made my work so much more meaningful as it affected me and my friends on a personal level.
